Tom Gattis is a professor of industrial design at SCAD and the chair of the department. Tom is a self-taught wood turner who has been producing various turned works of art since 1996. He has trained with internationally renowned turners from New Zealand, Finland and the United States. Gattis has a background in design and a masters degree in model building. His love for working with wood started at an early age when he would tinker in his father's workshop and continues with his collection of antique hand planes and wood working tools. When not teaching he enjoys spending time with his family and in his home studio in Savannah, Ga.
