Born in Illinois, Denise Falk completed both her B.F.A. and M.F.A. at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is a professor of painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and continues to be a leading and prolific artist in the contemporary art scene. Denise also served as chair of the painting department from 1993-2000. Denise has a comprehensive exhibition history, and has held group and solo shows throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Notably, her work was highlighted at the 2001 International Young Art Auction at Sotheby's in Tel-Aviv, Israel. Her work was also selected for the Southern Edition of New American Paintings, June 2002. Since 1993, she has been regularly commissioned to paint large-scale murals for public spaces all over the state of Georgia. In 1995, Falk served as project coordinator for the Southern Arts Revival Artist Collaborative, which undertook to create the world's largest painting. Executed on Tybee Island, Ga., at 72,726 square feet, the painting was recognized by the 1996 edition of the Guinness World Book of Records. Though the mark has since been eclipsed, to this day it remains the largest image of Elvis Presley ever painted. Falk has been a most cherished and noteworthy member of the SCAD community since she joined the college in 1992. Her energy and enthusiasm for her art and her students, along with her always creative spirit have made her a revered and popular professor, colleague and friend.
