(M.F.A., painting, 2011)
Jonathan Yoerger grew up surrounded by cornfields in an Indianapolis suburb with an addiction to daydreaming and a mother that kept him focused. Once he wanted to be Neil Armstrong, but the next day he wanted to be Van Gogh. Prepared with one suitcase, a passport and a bicycle, Yoerger flew overseas twice in two years to live and study in the South of France. This is where he met printmaking and Mount Ventoux, the beast he (almost) conquered. Now he lives in a concrete box with his girlfriend, dog and tabletop etching press in Savannah, Ga. His work has been shown internationally in France and India, and nationally in Chicago, Atlanta and more. He keeps high hopes; the glass is neither half empty nor half full, but has twice as much space as it needs.
