(B.F.A., painting student)
Starting out with photography, Tommy quickly took a hard turn to abstraction. He sees his work as a repetition of symbols, words and color. He sees his paintings as a puzzle, and the entirety of the work as an even bigger puzzle. Symbols have become an expression of his life, breaking down his surroundings to their most childlike form, exploring color, layers and repetition. Each painting is a piece of the puzzle, they are all in visual conversation with one another. They are insignificant without one another. Along with SCAD grad, Gwen O’Neil, the two founded the Lee O’Neil Gallery here in Savannah, which curates and hosts shows of local artists.
